What we collect
When you sign in with Google we receive the identifier (sub), name, profile picture, and email Google provides. We use these only to identify your account and attribute contributions.
Cookies
We use a strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. We also use analytics cookies — see the ‘Analytics’ section below. For advertising-related cookies, see the ‘Advertising’ section below.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages are read and how often. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) to count visits, and the data collected includes your device and browser, an approximate location, and the pages you view.
We use this only as aggregate statistics to improve the site, and we do not link it to your signed-in account. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on; see how Google uses data for details.
Advertising
This site shows ads through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google's advertising cookies (such as DoubleClick) let Google and its partners serve ads based on your visits here and elsewhere. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ad Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. See Google's advertising policies for details.
Storage and disclosure
Your edits and username are recorded publicly in page history. Contributions are shared under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Edit moderation
When you save an edit to a recipe, an automated filter on our server checks it for spam before it is applied, and the page's text before and after your edit (including the title), together with your edit summary, is sent to an AI model provider for an AI review — currently Anthropic's Claude API, with Google's Gemini API as the fallback when Claude is not configured. No account details — name, email or account id — are included in that request.
If the spam filter or the AI review refuses an edit, we keep a record of it for abuse review: the refused text (up to 2,000 characters), the id of the account that submitted it, the page, the time, and the verdicts and reasons from the filter and the AI review. These records are not shown on the site. An applied edit is shown in the page history with your username and edit summary, and notes from the automated checks may be added to that summary.
To stop floods of edits, we count edits per account; those counts are discarded after a little over an hour.
Stored in your browser
The ingredients you tick off on a recipe page are saved only in your browser's localStorage and are never sent to our server. A saved list older than 7 days is not restored, and clearing the ticks or your browser's site data removes it.
Recipe requests
The form for requesting a recipe we do not have yet, shown when a search finds nothing, stores only the dish name you typed and the page language — not your account or IP address. The request may be forwarded to the operator's inbox through an email delivery service. To stop the form being abused, requests are counted per IP address, and those counts are discarded after a little over an hour.
Deletion requests
Email contact@cookiki.com to request account or data deletion.
